Funerals at St Mary’s Timaru

When someone we love dies, it can be a deeply difficult and emotional time. At St Mary’s Timaru, we are here to offer care, guidance, and support as you arrange a funeral service that honours your loved one with dignity and respect.

We walk alongside families to help create a service that reflects the life, faith, and story of the person who has died.

Planning a funeral

Arranging a funeral can feel overwhelming, but you do not need to do it alone. Our parish team are here to help you through each step.

Together we will discuss:

  • The structure of the funeral service

  • Readings, prayers, and music choices

  • Personal tributes and memories

  • Burial or cremation arrangements in coordination with your funeral director

  • Any pastoral or family needs

Types of funeral services

We offer a range of services depending on your needs and wishes, including:

  • Funeral services held at the church

  • Services held at a crematorium or funeral home

  • Memorial services at a later date

  • Thanksgiving services to celebrate a life lived

Each service can be shaped to reflect the person being remembered.

A service of remembrance and hope

A Christian funeral is both a time of sorrow and a time of hope. We gather to give thanks for a life, to support one another in grief, and to commend our loved one into God’s care.

At St Mary’s Timaru, you are welcome whether the person had a strong faith, a distant connection to church, or no formal church background.
