Our role in the community

For centuries churches have been a place to learn, celebrate the arts, and receive guidance and care without judgement. We aim to continue this honourable tradition by providing a welcoming home for the personal development of all in our community.

Music and the arts

Music and the arts are given us by God for pleasure, for exploring our humanity, and for expressing our love for our Creator.  At St Mary's we have enjoyed a long tradition of great choral music which enhances our worship and draws us into a more intimate relationship with God.

Guidance and assistance

God offers to all a guiding and helping hand, through his servants in many places.  Our clergy are always available to talk and, most importantly, to listen.  Contact Rev'd John through the contact info below.  In God's world, we are all ministers to each other -- and we all need a helping hand sometimes.

The Anglican Church in South Canterbury offers one-on-one advocacy for life issues, including dealing with government agencies, and small-group workshops through Anglican Care South Canterbury.

Anglican Care South Canterbury also offers the Oceans programme, a small-group course to help children and adults deal with life-changing loss and grief.
